Detective Nathaniel Shades had been partnered with Caleb on this particular case; one that was most unusual not because of the MO, but because it opened and closed several times at random.
As if someone didn't want it continued. And now the two had been working feverishly before it got inexplicably shut again.
Thus far, it had been determined the killer was known as the Raincoat Killer due to a distinct black, hooded raincoat that a witness had seen him in as he was running away after she came across a whore he had just finished carving up like a thanksgiving turkey. She'd not seen his face, so there was no way to identify anything about him. It had also been determined that his preferred victems were prostitutes and strippers in the lower class areas, and often he left the bodies in some fashion resembling some sort of twisted art.
Caleb had gone off to the Roxy bar to ask around, and Shades had done some reviews over the case, confined to the office for awhile. Now with all he had, it was time to check up on him and see if they had anything new.
Knocking on Caleb's door, he waited for his investigation partner to answer.

Cassie sat at the kitchen table in the apartment, eating her supper, when she heard a knock at the door.
Cassie got up from her supper and walked over to the door. She stood up on her toes to see through the peep-hole.
She saw one of the policemen that she had met the day that the school had did that 'Go To Work With Your Parent' day thing.
Cassie opened the door slightly.
"Hello, sir," she said, "is anything wrong?"

Shades looked down at the young girl before him. He remembered her from that day Caleb had brought her with him on some special school day. "Is your father home?" He asked. This case wasn't one that could wait.

"Not right now," Cassie replied, "daddy's out trying to find out more about the case he's on now, sir. But he'll be back shortly, I think. Would you like to come in?"
Cassie opened the door wider to allow Detective Shades to enter the apartment.

"So he's not back yet..." Shades mused. "And thank you." He added politely as he followed her in. "We're on the same case, I was the one who got stuck with reviewing the old evidence while he looks for more. I came by to see if he'd returned yet with anything."

Cassie closed the door behind them and listened to what Detective Shades said.
"Alright," she replied, "well, he went out a while ago, so I think he should be back shortly."
Cassie then realized that she had forgotten to be polite and ask if Detective Shades would like anything.
"Oh! Would you like something to eat or drink, sir?" she asked, politely.

"I'm alright." Shades answered. "Your father raised you well." He commented. Hopefully Caleb would not take too long, unfortunately there was no way of reaching him until he got back; and it looked like he'd be babysitting till that happened.

Cassie blushed slightly at the compliment.
"Thank you, sir..." she said.
Shortly, there came another knock, the sound of a key jangling and opening the door.
Caleb walked into the apartment, closed the door and hung up his coat.
"Cassie, you should be in bed!" he called before he saw Shades, "Detective Shades. Good evening. I assume this is to do with the case?"

Shades turned as Caleb entered. Good, they could get on with this case right away. "Yes," He said, and waited until Cassie was out of range. "I've gone over all the previous evidence and reports on the Raincoat Killer case, it can't seem to stay open for long so we'll want to work fast. The past seven murders, four prostitutes, three strippers. One page was missing from one of the reports that had more evidence, shortly before it was closed that time." He explained. "Supposedly it was 'lost', which means we're back a few paces. You find out anything about the most recent one?"

Cassie left the main room to go into her bedroom, but kneeled down and listened through the door once it was closed.
"Not much," Caleb said, "the girls at the Roxy don't really take too kindly to law enforcement-types."
Caleb gestured for Shades to sit down at the kitchen table, and did so himself.
"I'm sure I probably know what you're gonna say, but I assume you've got a theory about why it's closed and re-opened so often?"

"Like they have any room to criticize someone's choice of life..." Shades muttered as he sat himself down.
"In a city like this, God's all but missing. Whoever's behind this has either bought off all the right people, or has been bribing them over and over. But this killer could be anything from a crime lord to a Wall Street resident. Other then that they're all low-class strippers and whores, there's no real connection among any of them. Only a few of them owed someone money, but they were to different people." He explained. "What can you remember finding out at the Roxy? In full detail."

"Like I said, not much," Caleb told him, "apparantly, the girl who went missing 'bout a week ago didn't have anyone who wanted her dead, and there wasn't really anything out of the ordinary that went on there."
Caleb sighed as he ran his hand over his face in frustration.
"I think it's probably safe to assume that our guy went to the Roxy to pick out his next victim. Perfect place to do so. Nobody would really notice a guy staring at one of the girls."

"And a lot of guys go to Roxy to see the girls. People from all classes come there too." Shades mused. "What kind of job did the last victim have?"

"Just a stripper, as far as I was told," Caleb reported, "though the people I talked to couldn't verify if she did anything else."
Caleb leaned back in his chair, thinking over everything they knew about the case.
"There's a strong possibility that we're deling with some guy who's out to set himself up as the new Jack the Ripper. You find any specific MO on the victims?"

"Strippers, whores, street women." Shades answered. "The bodies looked like they'd been slashed or stabbed to death, so whoever's killing them is likely using knives, or other sharp objects rather then guns. Also has a high, though sickening appreciation for Renaissance art, given that the bodies he's had time to mess with after have been propped or tied in ways resembling some old art pieces."
